FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Got an idea? We can make it a reality!
WHATS THE PROCESS? FROM DESIGN TO MARKET?
Normally an entrepreneur will go to a designer with an idea for a plastic component, get the product drawn by a CAD designer, go to a moulder, who in turn will approach a toolmaker, they will then make the tool, then it will go back to the moulder, be trialed, bugs worked out, and finally a production run will commence.
At Stroud Engineering Services LTD we can design, make the tool, and mould your product all under one roof, saving both time and money.
HOW MUCH DOES A MOULD TOOL COST?
The short answer is quite a lot! We are talking about a mechanism that is totally one off, not only that (depending on spec) it is designed to make anything from 10,000 mouldings to 1,000,000. Toolmakers tend to price on an hourly rate much less than you would pay your local car mechanic.
HOW LONG DO THEY TAKE TO MAKE?
Honestly the answer is the same as how long is a piece of string, however most mould tools take between 2-12 weeks to produce. Sometimes exotic hardening processes or finishes may make the lead time extend slightly.
I'VE GOT A GREAT IDEA BUT NOT MUCH MONEY TO FUND IT, WHAT CAN I DO?
Well, At Stroud Engineering, we have an ethos of trying to help people make their dreams become reality, and to support industry, there are options outside of the usual Bank based funding options to get your project off of the ground. Contact us to discuss!
I HAVE A GREAT IDEA BUT I'M WORRIED THAT IT WILL BE STOLEN.
As previously stated, we at Stroud Engineering are pro industry, we are as keen as you are to see you product take off, we have previously worked on designs that are proprietary and currently selling in very high numbers. We will sign NDA agreements etc in order to give you peace of mind, however we would sum up like this:- We are the mould makers, you are the visionaries, we are keen to see you succeed, it is in both our interests that you do so. Stroud Engineering Services will never put your product into a situation where you could lose control of it. We have designed and developed our own products and we can also give advice on patents and your forward route to market.
I HAVE AN IDEA FOR A DISPOSABLE PRODUCT, WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN MAKING A TOOL TO PRODUCE IT.
Simply, NO!, we are a company that is as considerate to the environment as we possibly can be. We understand that at the moment, plastics are a dirty word in the world of industrialism even though they are absolutely critical. We do not wish to perpetuate that stigma any further.
